| RICHARD W. MOTT-OWNER | ||||||
The former President & Chief Executive Officer of Kyphon, a global medical device company, Mott left the life sciences industry in May 2008, affording him the opportunity to enjoy big game fishing, a sport he declares to love and describes as ‘a bit more than just a hobby.’ For decades, Mott has guided and navigated through emerging research and development efforts in the implantable medical devices industry, improving the quality of life for people with spinal medical needs. His success has earned him the respect of life science leaders and related industry professionals around the globe. His recent success in the sportfishing industry, as evidenced by the 620-lb marlin his team captured during the 2007 Bisbee’s Black & Blue tournament, has indeed earned him and Angel & the Badman II Captain Alex Edwards much respect on the global waterways. Mott met Edwards nearly five years ago in the San Diego area. While attempting to coordinate repairs to an existing boat that he owned, Mott was introduced to Edwards who candidly spoke and advised him about the long-term issues with repairs and upgrades to his boat. Not only did Edwards assist Mott in resolving the problem, but earned his trust and role as captain of Mott’s newest boat, Angel and the Badman II. Mott’s career, in addition to Kyphon which he joined in September 2002, includes leadership positions at Wilson Greatbatch Technologies, Inc., where he served as Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice-President. A native of upstate New York, Mott holds a B.S. degree in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University and is a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. He enjoys boating, golfing, and John Wayne movies. |
