TOURNAMENT SPORT FISHING TEAM - ANGEL & THE BADMAN II THE “REEL” FACTS Named for the 1947 milestone film produced by U.S. actor John Wayne, Angel & The Badman II is indeed "settling things" out there on the high seas with a winning crew, and a winning attitude. The 48-foot, semi-custom flybridge sportfishing yacht made headlines as theoverall winner of the world’s richest marlin fishing tournament – the 2007 Bisbee’s Black & Blue. In doing so, Captain Alex Edwards became the youngest ever Captain to hoist the Championship Trophy in this world-class event. But that's not the only tournament win they've written into the books. The team aboard Angel & The Badman II also took first place in the 2008 International Governor's Cup Tournament - an all-release, one-time sport fishing event in Cabo San Lucas.
The team also fared well in several other tournaments; 5th place in the Avalon Billfish Classic; 2nd place in the release division of the 2005 Bisbee's Black & Blue; 5th place finishes in both the 2003 and 2005 Zane Grey Marlin Tournament at Catalina Island; and 5th place team with 3rd place angler, Alex Edwards, in the 2009 IGFA World Championship Offshore Tournament in Cabo San Lucas. What it all adds up to is a young and energetic team led by boat owner Richard W. Mott that is dedicated to making a name for themselves in tournament sport fishing.

SO HOW DO THEY DO IT? Ask either owner-angler Richard Mott or Captain Alex Edwards and you'll get the same stoic answer... create a set of "guiding principles" and live by them, always.
The team adheres to a simple set of rules, and they are; • We like to compete; but more importantly, we love to fish.
• Good sportsmanship is worth more than all the fish in the ocean.
• Be choosy – with products/materials, team, and tournaments. Only engage with those who share ABM II's beliefs, values, and commitment to quality.
• Luck is when preparation meets opportunity; don’t test your luck by being unprepared for the opportunities that await.
• "Each human being has an integrity that can be hurt only by the act of that same human being and not by the act of another human being" (Wall plaque inscription – Angel and the Badman, 1947).

Perhaps the most important factors in their continued success is their dedication to quality and a never-ending commitment to advance preparation. Knowing what to do when ocean and fishing conditions change.... carefully selecting each piece of gear that makes up their offshore arsenal and maintaining them for peak performance....
and learning, constantly learning from the time they spend on the water in pursuit of their passion.

TAKE MARLIN OFF THE MENU! The Take Marlin off the Menu campaign is designed to educate people about what billfish are, their role in the ecosystem and their imperiled state from commercial overfishing. The ultimate goal is, through education and political advocacy, to end the commercial harvest, sale and importation of marlin, sailfish and spearfish in the United States. After all, if you saw lion or tiger for sale in a restaurant or grocery store would you buy it? Of course not. Well, it's time we began thinking of billfish the same way.
The commercial harvest of billfish also carries health risks – Marlin may be harmful to eat. Marlin and billfish often contain unhealthy levels of mercury and other toxins that may be harmful to humans who regularly eat marlin, billfish and other large fish predators.
Spread the word – tell your friends, family members and co-workers -- it’s uncool to eat marlin and other billfish. Print out and share Sustainable Seafood Guides from the Marine Conservation Society, Environmental Defense Fund, and more.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT WE COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT THEM!
SEEING IS BELIEVING Part of the upgrades done during the haul-out were the installation of LED underwater lighting systems from DeepSea Power and Light. Erik Goodin and the gang at DeepSea produce what we find to be the best lighting sytems made today with features like dimming controls - something nobody else in the industry has. Renowned filmmaker James Cameron used deep sea submersibles Mir I and Mir II to explore the wreck of the Titanic, and guess who’s lights were used? Yep, DeepSea. How’s that for a feather in their cap?
